Our journey began as a grassroots effort in a small neighborhood called Matsanjeni located in Malindi Sub-County. "During one sunny October afternoon while on vacation in Kenya, my brother invited me to visit a local village nursery school. I was literally shocked by the pathetic conditions the kids were learning in. A dilapidated structure with no desks and proper roofing. When I left the school, I silently said to myself, 'I'm gonna help these kids'".

Coming back to Switzerland, the idea of helping these kids never left my mind. Together with my children and friends, we were able to fundraise and purchase land. In 2009 we built our ever first brick classroom which accommodated 45 students and MatsaRigi Kindergarten was founded with a noble vision to empower underserved children through better education. Initially, our Kindergarten made significant strides in fulfilling this mission, positively impacting the lives of the young children in Matsanjeni village. However, despite our dedication and efforts, financial challenges arose, forcing us to cease operations in 2015. In 2020, and like Manna from heaven, Ms. Ana Von Bock came into our lives and a new chapter began for MatsaRigi CBO!

Thanks to the generosity and support of School4Life, our organization received a lifeline. With renewed hope and resources, MatsaRigi was relaunched, revitalizing our commitment to empowering communities and creating positive change. School4Life purchased a 7.5 acres land for Matsarigi and also helped build a second classroom including other infrastructure. On July 26th 2021, Matsarigi admitted the first batch of 64 PP1 students aged between 4 and 5 years. Their education which is supplemented by feeding program (porridge breakfast and lunch) was fully financed by School4Life with some support from the CBO members and the community. Currently, our Education Centre is serving students in PP1-2 and Grade 1 and 2. Presently, we have admitted a total number of 125 students fully sponsored in our Education Centre.

Since our resurgence, MatsaRigi CBO has redoubled its efforts to address the pressing needs of underserved populations. Through strategic partnerships, sustainable practices, and community-centered approaches, we are once again making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve. Today, MatsaRigi stands as a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the transformative power of collective action. As we continue our journey, we remain steadfast in our dedication to building a brighter, more inclusive future for all. Join us as we write the next chapter of our story, together.
