Quality education

It is still quite apparent that unless we equip our children academically, they may end up with no sustainable future. As Matsarigi CBO, we intend to a tailored education and customized to fit our children’s needs and that of future market demands.
It is also true that excellence education structures are the basic component towards a successful student’s re-integration back to the community. Matsarigi has an obligation to play through the provision of quality education to her children. Through education children are empowered with ability to create an enabling environment to work in in future. Matsarigi plays a fundamental role to ensure that this program is accomplished to enable children develop into responsible citizens of the country.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), health is a state of being physically and emotionally stable. According to the government of Kenya, Health policy is one of the key roles that the government plays to fulfill the safety of her citizens in general. As Matsarigi CBO endeavors to achieve her primary health care services to the target groups in the community, there is an obligation to play in relevant to that of the government through the provision of both curative and preventive measures of health care among the community members who are health disadvantaged.

On dimensional change Matsarigi looks forward to establish initiatives that will be able to enable her meet the needs of children in need of primary health care, expectant mothers, the aged, physically and mentally disabled persons and the ill persons who are experiencing medical dilemma in our community.

Sustainable Farming

Matsarigi CBO introduced a farming program as a means of income generating activities among the needy families and also an additional food production to the school feeding program. The cassava project which is our staple farming product is the only crop that can survive the harsh climate in our project location in the Coastal Region of Kenya where latitudes are usually very high.
The cassava crop is valuable in so many different ways in Kenya and its demand is usually high when the yield is a plus.

The anticipated value addition of cassava to the economy are as follows:

            • Boiled or fried cassava used as snacks by our students
            • Cassava chips packed and sold in local shops and supermarkets
            • Dried pounded cassava as food
            • Cassava cakes and biscuits
            • Cassava starch and derivatives used in the processing industries
            • Cassava leaves used fresh or dried and packed food
            • Cassava peels used as roughage and livestock feeds

Community Empowerment

As Matsarigi CBO continues to work for children who are vulnerable in the community through the provision of quality education programs, the organization has developed a strong partnership with the community and other community related departments working towards empowering community initiatives. Through an extensive network with the local authorities we have been able to provide an extensive intervention to our children and also been able to put emphasis on the importance of working with women and youths in the project community.
Matsarigi CBO being a family’s empowerment project in Kilifi County, this program is aimed at strengthening families in their efforts of protecting and caring for their vulnerable children as compared to the food baskets that we give when we get good harvest in our cassava farm as we did previously with maize produced from our farm. In this program we hope to support only the families who are living under difficult circumstances to an extent of their children being at a great risk of joining child labor, child prostitution or early teenage marriage among other risks.
During the establishment of this organization, many families had no hope in future but today we can stand out and witness what marvelous results we have achieved. We are humbled by the fact that many children who could not join schools at the onset of their school going ages have a ray of hope in life today.
Also through an extensive network with the local authorities, we have been able to provide an extensive intervention to our women and youths within their various groups to put more emphasis on the importance of income generating activities, healthy living programs and networking with other like-minded organizations so that their pleas can best be addressed with an aim of poverty eradication.

Lunch Feeding Program

Through the Matsarigi CBO lunch feeding program, this have encouraged many children to be attending schools regularly and thus a step to brightening their future. The children are usually served with lunch meals every day during school days.
Also, through our endeavors to promote quality education to our learners, the lunch feeding programs has enhanced our students with ability to perform much better through their various class activities hence this has created a positive impact in their learning process.
The feeding program was also to ensure that children stay in school every day as a matter of motivation through quality feeding program. Also due to economic hardship in many families whose children are attached to the program, we realized that learners would either discontinue with their learning process due to lack of lunch meals back at home, this is because some families cannot even afford to give their young children breakfast because they can only afford one meal in a day. We have continued to realize a positive turn out of learners to school every day which has also motivated the institution to have a better future plans for children attached to the program.
